FROM WHAT AGE CAN MYOPIA BE TREATED WITH EYE SURGERY?
From the age of 20, if the myopia, hypermetropia and/or astigmatism have been stable for at least two years.
HOW MUCH DOES THE OPERATION COST?
For PKR, the cost is €800 per eye, or €1600 for both eyes.
For FEMTO LASIK, the cost is €1100 per eye, or €2200 for both eyes.
For presbyopia FEMTO LASIK treatment, the cost is €2500 for both eyes.
For non-laser operations, the cost per eye varies from €1,550 to €2,000 depending on the cost of the lens indicated in your particular case.
Rate agreements exist with many private insurance companies.
HOW LONG DOES THE OPERATION TAKE?
Laser operations take approximately 10 minutes per eye.
HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THE CLINIC?
You will be in the clinic for about an hour.
For non-laser surgery, plan on staying for three to four hours.
HOW LONG SHOULD I COUNT ON STAYING IN THE CHARENTE AREA?
Depending on your operation, plan on staying one or two days in the Charente area (including the day of the operation) for post-op checks
IS A GENERAL ANAESTHETIC USED?
We use a topical local anaesthetic, i.e. just eye drops.
IS THE OPERATION COVERED BY THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE?
These operations are not covered by the national health service, but some private insurance companies cover at a flat rate. Check with your insurance company.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN RISKS?
The main risk is infection (laser and surgery in an ophthalmologic unit).
Correction is sometimes incomplete, requiring additional treatment.
Blurred or hazy vision as the cornea heals more slowly, with a longer recovery time.
The eyes may be dry for several months
